Protein Distribution & The Leucine Trigger Hypothesis

"Why consuming 40g of high-quality protein every 3-4 hours optimizes muscle protein synthesis far beyond one giant meal."

Hitting your daily protein goal is step one. Step two is optimizing your muscle protein synthesis (MPS) spikes throughout the 24-hour circadian clock. ### Crossing the 3g Leucine Threshold To initiate maximal MPS, a meal must contain approximately 3 grams of the essential amino acid leucine. Once this threshold is crossed, intracellular signaling cascades turn on full muscular repair mode. #### Practical Guidelines: - Divide daily total protein into 4 equal boluses spaced 3.5 to 5 hours apart. - Include a pre-bed protein source rich in slow-digesting micellar casein or egg white protein. - Combine fast-acting whey protein isolate post-workout with 30-50g of high-glycemic carbohydrates to elevate insulin and shuttle nutrients.
